So happy with Automattic!

Just last week I signed up for WordPress.com after trying to figure out WordPress.org for ages – what a difference! No more worrying about hosting or updates, it's all handled. My site looks great and it was so easy to get going. Definitely shopping here again!

Gravatar was okay, but coupon was a miss

i was looking at Gravatar for a while, and finally decided to try it out. compared to wix, the options seemed really good, but it was a bummer that the coupon i found online wouldn't work since i wasn't a new subscriber. really wish those deals were clearer upfront, maybe for returning customers too? still, the service itself seems decent enough for what i need. 🤷‍♂️

Jetpack Boost is okay, support could be faster

I got Jetpack Boost for my site to speed things up. It helped a bit, saw some improvement, but not a huge jump. Installation was simple enough. I had a question about one of the settings and customer service took a couple of days to get back to me, which was a little slow. Overall, it's decent for the price, but don't expect miracles or instant replies.

Got a domain, no hassle

Needed a new domain for a small project, so I grabbed it through Automattic. It was pretty easy to find the right one and get it registered. The whole process was smooth, didn't hit any snags. I linked it up with my WordPress.com site without any trouble. Happy with how simple it was.

Reliable for WooCommerce stores

I've been using Automattic for my WooCommerce store for years now, mostly for the WooCommerce Payments and some extensions. This last time I renewed my WooCommerce Subscriptions, and it was as smooth as always. I appreciate the consistency; I know what to expect. Their tools just integrate so well. I keep coming back because it's dependable, and everything just works together without a fuss. It saves me a lot of headaches compared to some other platforms I've tried in the past.

What's the real difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org? I'm so confused which one Automattic actually does.

W Wendy Q. 3 weeks ago
Automattic runs WordPress.com, which is the hosted version. WordPress.org is the open-source software you download and host yourself.

It's confusing, I know! Think of it this way: WordPress.com is like renting an apartment (everything's managed for you), and WordPress.org is like owning a house (you're responsible for everything). Automattic is behind the 'renting' option, making it easier for beginners.

Is there any kind of discount for non-profits for their services? My small charity could really use a break on website costs.

A Anna T. 1 month ago
I've heard of non-profit pricing, but I'm not sure which products it applies to. Worth asking their sales team.

Yeah, I think they do. I remember seeing something about special pricing for non-profits, especially for WordPress.com business plans or maybe even some Jetpack stuff. You'd probably need to contact their support or sales directly with your non-profit details.

Thinking of moving my site from Squarespace to WordPress.com. Is it a huge pain to migrate everything over or is it pretty straightforward with Automattic?

J Josh E. 1 month ago
I moved my blog from Blogger to WP.com a couple of years ago and it wasn't too bad. They have tools that help with importing stuff.

It depends on how complex your Squarespace site is. For a basic blog, it's usually okay. For something super custom, you might need to do some manual tweaks. But Automattic's support articles are pretty good for migration steps.

Hey, wondering if anyone knows if Automattic does any student discounts for WordPress.com plans? Trying to build out my portfolio without breaking the bank.

A Anna Carter 1 month ago
Yeah, I think they do! I saw something about it on their site a while back. Worth checking their FAQs or support page.

They totally do! It's usually a pretty sweet deal too, for the first year. My buddy got like 50% off his plan. You just need to prove you're a student.

Thinking of signing up for WordPress.com but seeing all these Black Friday ads everywhere. Should I wait for a sale or just jump in now?

R Rosa 1 month ago
Definitely wait if you can! Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales are usually their biggest discounts of the year.
3
D Daisy 1 month ago
Oh man, absolutely wait! They always have huge deals around that time. You could save like 30-50% on annual plans. It's only a few weeks away anyway, so might as well.
